New Moon in Pisces and the Year of the Goat

Image courtesy of Chinese New Year 2015 Element *
The New Moon in Pisces marks the beginning of the Chinese Calendar. The exact new moon time is at 07:48 a.m. on 19-February, 2015 in China's time zone.

The Chinese calendar is based on a lunisolar year (relating to both the Moon and the Sun) - Because the first new moon after the Winter Solstice is the 12th month of the Chinese calendar year, usually the second new moon of the year in the Georgian calendar is actually the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar.  Chinese New Year usually falls in mid February.  (Even though China now uses the Georgian calendar, their new year is based on the ancient Chinese calendar.)

New Year’s Day is the most important date in the Chinese calendar, and is normally a three day work holiday, although some may stretch the holiday even longer.  Celebrations actually continue for the entire month!

Is 2015 The Year of the Goat or Sheep?   It is the Year of the Goat, but  sometimes is referred to as the “Year of the Sheep” because of confusion which stems from the translation of the "yang" Chinese character  -  which can be translated as either a goat or a sheep.

The Goat is the eighth animal of the Chinese Zodiac. Goats are resilient and create their success through perseverance; they are thought of as gentle and sympathetic, but have a strong sense of justice. According to Chinese astrologers, luck within careers will fluctuate for those born in the year of the goat and their financial fortune will be average. However, they are said to possess a power to turn their fortune around – so that when things seem bleak, their luck may change. This year looks good for health.

What is your Chinese Sign? Many Chinese Sign calculators do not account for the non-alignment of the two calendars, using Gregorian-calendar years rather than official Chinese New Year dates!

It is important to check your sign based on a Chinese calendar - you may have miscalculated your Chinese sign using a Georgian calendar! Here is a link to some interesting Chinese Zodiac trivia and a calculator to find your sign. http://www.char4u.com/content/chinese-zodiac-sign/

The Chinese 60 Year CycleAn uncomplicated explanation of the 60 year cycle - and fairly decent history of Chinese Astrology - can be found on Wikipedia:  "The 60-year cycle consists of two separate cycles interacting with each other. The first is the cycle of ten heavenly stems, namely the Five Elements (in order Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water) in their Yin and Yang forms.

The second is the cycle of the twelve Zodiac animal signs (shengxiào) or Earthly Branches . They are in order as follows: the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. In Vietnam the rabbit is replaced by the cat.

This combination creates the 60-year cycle due to the least amount of years (least common multiple) it would take to get from Yang Wood Rat to its next iteration, which always starts with Yang Wood Rat and ends with Yin Water Pig." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_astrology "

Hope you are planning something special - 2015 New Year celebrations continue until the the moon is full, March 5!

An Astrological Trip Around the New Moon in Pisces 2014

Astrological Investing New Moon forecasts show general trends and financial outlook for the month. The New Moon in Pisces, 2014 - Chart from the point of view of Wall Street and the NYSE.

The
New Moon in Pisces, March 1, 2014

Chart from the point of view of Wall Street and the NYSE.
If you're not confused, you're not paying attention.Tom Peters

This has been a season of not only extreme weather, but extremely unpredictable markets. So many planets changing direction! And there's more! On the day of the Pisces New Moon we find Mars stationing retrograde just the day after Mercury turned Direct, and then the next day, Saturn begins to station retrograde, and Jupiter changes direction on March 6!  Whew! With so many changes of direction we can only anticipate market confusion.

"Retrogrades cause confusion,"
wrote Randall Ashbourne in his Eye of RA report for the week of January 27. And he sure wasn't kidding!

Knowing the outlook for the lunar month can give only a broad picture of the potential astrological energy that may affect the market; however, knowing both astrology and technical analysis is your best bet for successful trading.  Randall Ashbourne's "Idiot Method" outlined in his eBook, The Idiot & the Moon, is the most successful approach to trading I have ever used.

The upcoming March Equinox Chart will set the astrological tone for the Spring season. I will send an announcement when my Equinox article will be available online.

An Astrological Trip Around the New Moon in Pisces Chart
The New Moon (Sun/ Moon) brings matters of the second house to the forefront. Mercury and Neptune are in the second house as well. More importantly, however, the New Moon is trine Jupiter. This is very fortunate.

The New Moon in the second house in it's "natural influence, is beneficial to business, trade, the money market and financial affairs generally"(H.S. Green). Because is it aspected by a trine to Jupiter, it is even more beneficial.

Mercury in Aquarius is stationing Direct in the second house -
We always feel a sense of relief when Mercury stations direct - it is time to get back to business! Usually whatever havoc Mercury seemed to cause during it's retrograde phase has worked itself out. The market is about in the same situation (normally) as it was when the retrograde period started. However, this isn't a typical time with so many planets changing direction!

What we can count on, however, is that wherever Mercury is found in the New Moon chart we will experience a great deal of activity in the affairs of that house during the lunar month. This month there will be a concentration of discussions regarding finance and financial regulations, regulations connected to means of transit, and the Post Office. The stock market will react negatively if there are real (or false!) reports concerning problems in the banking sector.

Neptune in Pisces in the second house -
Fluctuations in the stock market and a failure to realize expectations may be the result of this Neptune placement. Even free from affliction, it is always uncertain how well the market can perform with Neptune in the second.

Saturn in Scorpio rules the rising sign of Capricorn in this chart. Because Saturn is the chart ruler, Saturn is especially influential this lunar month. This is good for stocks, national funds, investments, banking...but not because of growth or increase as in the case of Jupiter, but rather through method, and prudence.

Astrological Investing New Moon forecast for the New Moon in Pisces, March 11, 2013

Astrological Investing New Moon forecasts show general trends and financial outlook for the month. The New Moon in Pisces, March 11, 2013  - Chart from the point of view of Wall Street and the NYSE.

Where are we now and where are we going?  On Friday, March 1 - Day of Sequestration, when the automatic budget cuts were to kick in as a result of the inaction of the White House and Congress, there was additional bad news of a weaker-than-expected economic report from China and Great Britain.  Negating all that however, news of the U.S. factory sector expanding more than expected and the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index scoring its highest level since November, brought the market up. What started off seemingly bad, at the close the DJIA was up 35 points to 14,090, the S&P 500 gained 4 points at 1,518, and the Nasdaq rose 10 points to 3,170.

I write this newsletter in the 3rd quarter of the Moon phase, and as of  today,  U.S. stocks closed higher after early session losses because " strength in defensive sectors shored up weak industrials and energy on China growth fears". (quoted from MarketWatch )

Bad News? What Bad News!  Sequester?  Weak economic reports from Europe and Asia?  A China Bubble?  Hmph!  Bad news seems to have little impact on the stock market.  As long as Federal Chairman Ben Bernanke stays the course, Bad News Bears might stir, but Ben Bernanke's Bulls keep driving the market.

NOTE - The markets have followed the course set by the Sagittarius rising chart of the Winter Solstice. (Read the article, Just Anther Winter Solstice - 2012)  It will be interesting to see the March Equinox Chart, as it will set the tone for the following three months. (I will send an announcement when my Equinox article will be available online.)

An Astrological Trip Around the New Moon in Pisces Chart

The New Moon (Sun/ Moon) Mercury Rx, Venus, and Mars bring matters of the eighth house to the forefront.
All are located in the Eighth house which has dominion over the public income, estates, pension funds, stockholder's of companies, interest rates, insurance, banking, credit, the National debt, the IRS ...and organized crime! Now how can organized crime have anything to do with how well the market is doing - hmmm... please make a note that Pluto, a natural ruler of the eighth house is found in the fifth house of this chart.)

Venus in the eighth is all about MONEY - Other People's Money. You get the picture...

Mercury is retrograde -
During Mercury Rx, astrologers are known to repeat, and REpeat these words, "do things that begin with RE" - and this stellium of planets in the eighth house suggests we will RE-visit tax REform, and increase tax REvenues.

Mercury in Pisces RX square Jupiter blurs communication
- whatever you read and hear is so ambiguous it is difficult to understand exactly what is what. Ask yourself, "Is that what I REALLY heard? - What games are being played?"

The Sun in Pisces rules the rising sign of Leo in this chart.  Problems have the potential to be resolved in a very creative and dramatic way this month.

Mars in Pisces is in the last degree and will move into Aries. Those who have Randall Ashbourne's latest eBook, FORECAST 2013, be sure to REread his work on Mars in Cardinal signs.

Mars' impulse is To Act
- Pisces is represented by two fishes swimming in opposite directions. We've seen the market go two directions while Mars has been in Pisces. But Mars moves into Aries the next day, on the 12th, and then it's "Katie Bar the Door!" for the Arien Martian.  According to Randall's research, "there is a strong tendency for markets to top out when Mars is in Aries."

The New Moon in Pisces 2012

Read this New Moon report in it's entirety at www.astrologicalinvesting.com/html/newsletter.html
New Moon forecasts show the general trends and financial outlook for the lunar month based upon location of the chart

Preface: In Lesson Eight, titled Mundane Astrology, in The Textbook for Financial Astrology, Book 4, Kaye Shinker outlined how to read a New Moon chart. Kaye always read the New Moon chart from the point of view of Washington D.C. and gave predictions in the newsletters foretelling events which included economic, political, sociological, entrepreneurial, and meteorological conditions.

My New Moon reports will be different. I prefer to use New York, NY for the location of the New Moon chart instead, and will focus on the economic issues and political conditions affecting the financial market. In my reading I'll interpret the house placement of the New Moon for the NYSE and major aspects going on as represented chart. As time goes on the format may change, so let me know what you think!

But for now, let's look at the chart from the point of view of Wall Street and the NYSE. (Click chart for larger image)

What is going on here?!?!

Well, to start, the Sun entered the zodiac sign of Pisces on the 19th. For financial markets the Sun represents the government, heads of state, the CEO's and presidents of corporations. In Pisces these entities wake each day to a boundless and ethereal Piscean world having visions of utopia.

Interestingly, this chart lacks dynamic energy, and what I mean by lacking dynamic energy is, when using very tight orbs, the only major aspect between planets is the 6th house conjunction of the New Moon with Neptune!

Basically, at the exact time of the New Moon, all the planets with the exception of the Sun, Moon and Neptune are without aspect! Planets without aspect often act without restraint – or sometimes they just quietly hold back and don't act at all. This new Moon conjunction takes place in Pisces – so folks, we may be confused about what is ahead this month. Confusion equals volatility in the stock market.

The New Moon conjunct Neptune in the 6th house
The focus is on jobs and the health of the economy. Unemployment figures may be up, and the stock market may appear to be rallying to new heights, but we wonder, is it all a Piscean illusion?

Healthcare stocks may lead the market.

Mercury in the 7th House
Two days after the New Moon, Mercury will oppose Mars on February 23 at 17° Pisces. That will be the last aspect Mercury makes before changing signs to join Venus and Uranus in the aggressive sign of Aries. A challenging aspect, this opposition may manifest in a breakdown of communication regarding mergers and public relations.

News from Astro Economics: (excerpt from February's Astro Economics newsletter...)
"January 2012 was the best month for the stock market since 1997! Are the investors back? Have they decided to stop listening to the negative news sources and actually looking at reliable sources? Although GDP growth is slow it is moving in the right direction as are employment rates. The Federal Reserve has expressed its intention to keep interest rates low into 2014. (This may be why many analysts are again touting gold.) Low interest rates are always good for the stock market. Last week at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland, leaders of U.S. companies were mostly positive on the future of the economy.
GOLDEN CROSS
Historically the Golden Cross is considered a positive sign for the months ahead in the stock market. The Golden Cross occurs when the 50-day moving-average and the 200-day moving-average form a cross. This occurred on 1/31/12 in the S&P 500 Index. Past results point to future gains..." Grace K Morris
