The 2 main scenarios and a head fake

Randall Ashbourne, an associate of Astrological Investing, posts a weekly market report on his web site, theidiotandthemoon.com  The following is this weekend's Eye of RA report: Week beginning October 13, 2014

For the past few weeks we've been discussing the turmoil and volatility likely to be on display during this period.

I warned that the Grand Trine between Mars, Jupiter and Uranus in Fire signs would break boundaries. That is the true nature of a trine.

We also talked about how the symbolism of the Fire trine would be further exacerbated by the Sun and Venus rocking the Libran scales.

And how last week's lunar eclipse Full Moon had the power to bring it all to a spectacular climax.

Mercury is Retrograde for most of October, so there is a chance it's all a head fake. However, we still have the solar ecipse New Moon to come ... on the 23rd.

Western-allied markets are in turmoil. Not so much so for a lot of the Asian indices.

We now need to put aside The Spooky Stuff and look at what has happened from a more technical point of view.

And there are only two main scenarios. We are either in a secondary correction before another rally produces a final High to the Bull run sometime next year. Or, we are already in a new Bear.

The good news is that the extreme nature of the cosmic energy explosion should now begin to subside ... at least temporarily. The bad news is that we are probably in a correction due to run for weeks, possibly months.

In Elliott Wave terms, it would be a major Wave 4. Elliott theorised that stock markets run in 5 waves, where Waves 1, 3 and 5 are major rallies and Waves 2 and 4 are rather severe downturns within the overall structure.

So, let's begin this weekend with a look at what we might expect as reasonable and "normal" if that scenario is in play. The chart below is a monthly of the SP500, using Bi-BBs (the use of which is outlined in The Technical Section of The Idiot & The Moon) and an Andrew's Pitchfork.

The current correction has so far run $113 ... so it is roughly on a par with three earlier corrections during this Bull phase. They were $118, $155 and $112.

The big correction, which EW acolytes believe was a Wave 2 downturn, ran for 6 months from start to finish and sliced $295 off the price of the index.

So, if we are now in Wave 4, this downturn will not be short-lived and there is more downside still to come. Normalcy dictates there should be a relationship with Wave 2, either in Time or Price, but not necessarily both.

Elliott Wavers use a rule-of-thumb that a major Wave 4 tends to decline into the same price territory as the previous Wave 4 of a lower level. Yes, I know ... it can be very difficult to get your head around if you haven't spent a lot of time trying to understand the theory.

So, let me try to cut out the gobbledegook for you. It means, on our planetary prices chart below, that the target for the decline could be as high as $1878 ... or as low as $1776.

Now remember, that's the relatively optimistic scenario ... that this is just a significant downturn in a Bull run which still has another major rally to run.

The second scenario is that this is a screaming klaxon warning the Bull is dead and the Bear is back. Even if that's the case, there will be sharp and swift bouncebacks in the price as the central banks, the hedge funds, the fund managers try desperately to drive prices higher ... even if it's only to unload their toxic holdings onto poor mug punters who buy the media line that it's "a great time to buy".

Caveat emptor!

Now to my home market, the ASX200 and its routinely reliable Weekly Planets chart. Regular readers will know that Auntie is a strongly Neptunian index over the long term, even as she responds to Saturn lines during weekly moves.

The next potential Neptune "rescue" level is very nearby, priced around $5150. Note that the index topped out at the $5650 level, so $5150-ish is both a legitimate target and potentially quite strong as a Support level.

The Big Bird oscillator has gone into a death dive on the weekly. Poor little thing seems to be buried in the dirt on the mineshaft floor. We'll get no sustained bounce in Auntie's price levels until he manages to pop his head back above the lowest red line in the panel.

And that's it for this weekend. Long-range charts and other stuff for the European indices have been published in previous weeks and if you didn't do a cut-and-paste of them, you can have a wander through the Archives.

Since we're in the final quarter for the year, I still have to do some housekeeping to create the 4Q Archives page. In the meantime, if you missed last weekend, or want to re-read it, you can access it from the website http://www.theidiotandthemoon.com/eyeofra.html or scroll down in this blog.

Desperately seeking harmony

Randall Ashbourne, an associate of Astrological Investing, posts a weekly market report on his web site, theidiotandthemoon.com  The following is this weekend's Eye of RA report: Week beginning September 29  2014
The Sun has changed signs to Libra and early this coming week he'll be joined by the sign's ruling Queen, Venus.

Libra is the sign of balance, harmony, diplomacy and fairness. Yeah. That's what the Librans love to tell you. They're good at public relations ... in so many ways.

The glyph for Libra is a set of scales. And they're a bit like a broken clock that's right twice a day.

Because, dear reader, we all know scales are in balance only when they're empty! So, Life in the Libran lane is a constant back-and-forth as it seeks balance, equality and harmony ... actually only achieving it for short periods of time until the next little breeze upsets the delicate balancing act.

It's a see-saw, tilting first this way ... then that way. What does it mean for stock markets ... and money, since Venus also has specific rulership of money?

It means anything which swung too far that way is about to start swinging back the other way! Awww ... yuh thought it was gonna be nice?

Nuh. Afraid not. It's just going to exacerbate the volatility we've been discussing for the past few weekends.

We've now had the first hit of the Fire trine ... Jupiter in Leo trined to Uranus in Aries. And in many markets, the "obstacles" collapsed.

The ASX200 and the FTSE are a couple of examples. Here's the FTSE update from last week. The chart has "lost" the marked prices, but you can look them up in last weekend's edition, via the Archives.

London just collapsed through the 6734 and 6703 markers from last week ... but did find at least temporary support at the listed 6615 price, making a Friday low at 6615.10. The ASX200 collapsed down through the 5415 and 5385 markers, but stopped dropping a few dollars short of the marked 5294 level, with a weekly low of 5309.80.

Germany and Amsterdam declined into close hits of the Jupiter/Uranus price crossing and held. Here's the DAX chart updated.

And it was a ditto for greenback gold, which made a spike down to a rising Mars price and closed the week on top of FatBoy and the Frootloop.

Now look, I'm bored with waffling on about Old Gods and the current aspects. We discussed it at length over the past couple of weekends. Just remember the Mars trines to Uranus and Jupiter have yet to become exact, so we're still in the period when the boundaries are likely to fail.

Let's have a look at what Pollyanna's see-saw looks like. The SP500 is still roughly in the middle of the Bullish price channel it has been riding since around this time in 2011. The Big Bird oscillator is tilting the other way, but is still holding above the Bullish +100 level.

Daily price bars continue to range within the Nodal bounaries at $1960 and $2000. Friday's bounce took the price back in contact with a rising, light green Sun line and a falling, dark green Venus line.

Blah, blah, blah. Time for a bit of favoritism and I'll deal now with my home market. Firstly, the danger ...

Auntie, the ASX200, has fallen off its uptrend line. We still have two days of trading to finish before this bar cements itself, but it's not looking good. The Canaries have been stacked in negative mode for months and the last price peak came in with a significantly lower peak in the Big Bird (the blue line oscillator).

Red Bird (medium-term) and Green Bird (fast) have fallen off their perch ... badly. We have clear warning signs the Australian stock market may be rolling over from vaguely Bullish to distinctly Bearish.

Auntie's Weekly Planets chart is below and the weekly Big Bird has gone into a death dive. Despite the fact we're now in the statistically negative period between New Moon and Full Moon, it is possible that the Sun/Venus entry into Libra may try to swing the scales back in the other direction.

However, at this stage, it's looking more likely to be a corrective bounce, rather than a resumption of the Bull.

Overall, as with the other indices, we are in the hands of the three fiery Old Gods making a Grand Trine with each other and need to watch carefully and stay nimble for the next couple of weeks.

Libran "balance" can be very chaotic!

Randall Ashbourne, an associate of Astrological Investing, posts a weekly market report on his web site, theidiotandthemoon.com The following is this weekend's Eye of RA report: Week beginning Sept, 30, 2013

Sometimes, the velvet glove just puts a pretty face on the iron fist.
We need to talk about The Spooky Stuff this weekend ... because there's a surprising amount of danger involved.

The Sun is now travelling through Libra and will be joined by the Moon late this week for a New Moon, statistically a high point in market prices.

The New Moon is closely opposed to Uranus and square to Pluto, again setting off the tension we've discussed at length over the past 2 years.

Libra is supposed to be one of the really nice signs of the zodiac. Symbolically, it represents a drive for equity, harmony, fairness, balance and diplomacy. Supposed to be. Sometimes, the velvet glove just puts a pretty face on the iron fist.

Which is precisely what we're seeing again as the Obama White House engages in another battle about debt with the Republican Congress.

Instead of playing nice with each other we see yet more nuances of the Uranus/Pluto square, which pits demands for radical reform against entrenched defence of the status quo. And, perhaps typical of Libra, both sides are on ... both sides.

Obama is determined to get radical reform of healthcare, while raising the debt ceiling to keep the Government functioning; Republicans want radical reform of spending and the scrapping of the healthcare reforms.

All that aside, past performance suggests the Sun travelling through Libra is nearly always a volatile time for the stock market.

The chart below shows the performance of Wall Street's SP500 since the late 1990s, with the red bars depicting the Sun's annual move through Libra.

Libra is one of the Cardinal signs; an action sign. And it does tend to produce some very strong action ... and not much "balance".

There are 14 Libran Sun periods on the chart before the current one ... 9 of them produced significant lows, 2 produced significant highs. That's 11 of the 14 which turned the markets in a very significant way.

With odds like that, it's probably not a good time to nod off. Even the three periods which did not occur with a high or low produced a lot of action ... a strong rally in all three cases.

Our next chart is Pollyanna's New Moon/Full Moon chart. We discussed the implications of this channel last weekend because of the rarity of making a Full Moon price high.

New Moons are the thick red dotted bars (statistical high) and Full Moons are the thick blue bars. Check back through the performance and we can see it's unusual for the SP500 to drop directly into the New Moon. The tendency is to at least bounce for the few days into the NM date; Friday of this coming week.

Remember, too, that we have a Bradley Model trend change date next weekend. Check the Archives for last weekend's edition if you missed it.

You'll notice on the New Moon chart that Polly closed Friday with another visit to the red parallel of the channel she'd been following for most of the year.

It was also a gap-filling, Fibonacci Retracement level of the post-June rally. I indicated early in the year I was starting to keep manual charts for Pollyanna because of the inaccuracy (total lies) of the official figures from the NYSE.

As you can see, the real Opening figures show she's been gapping all over the place for the past few months. While contact with a supportive FiboRx level and the rising trendlines indicates the potential to show a "normal" bounce into the New Moon on Friday (and the Bradley date), there are two very obvious gaps crying to be filled ... the black line at 1672.40 and another down at 1593.79.

Now let's turn our attention to where we are in the bigger picture. Last weekend, I showed a monthly version of the following weekly channel chart and mentioned Big Bird on that chart was only just starting to show signs of negative divergence.

If we apply a general rule of normalcy ... and I emphasised just how normal that monthly chart was ... we cannot transform from Bull to Bear without clearcut divergence in the monthly Big Bird.

But, as I've said, weekly Big Bird has fallen off his perch and is squarking horribly. It's not screaming Bear! ... but it is giving increasingly shrill warning signs of another multi-week correction.

While the chart above uses the simple trendline/channel techniques outlined in The Technical Section of The Idiot & The Moon, we can also use Andrew's Pitchforks to get a good idea of where we are - and some sense of where we might be going.

The chart below shows both the long-range rising fork and the potential for more relatively near-term declines. Just "eyeball" the chart for the big picture overview.

Because once we see the broad picture, it's easier to spot exactly where we are within the broader context.

We can see Miss Polly topped out two weeks ago with a touch of the central blue tyne of the rising, long-range fork. It was also the place where the last Fibonacci outlier of the falling fork came into play.

We don't really need ALL of these methods. Too many cooks spoil the broth; too many charts befuddle the brain. Still, we see Polly ended the week with a touch of one of the important internal Fibonacci lines of the rising fork.

So, what we seem to have is the potential for what would be a normal New Moon bounce this week. But we also have an intermediate-range Big Bird which is decidedly unhappy with the state of affairs and disagrees very, very strongly with the legitimacy of the recent price rises

We have a significant, month-long Bradley trend change indicated. And we have the potential for the Libran Sun to cause chaos and sharp price moves. Caution, anyone?

Best Wishes and Happy Solar Return to early Scorpio Suns
and Libra Suns born October 7 through October 22nd!

Our Libra friends are working very hard evaluating their assets and liabilities and are finding new ways to save money and cutting expenses where ever possible.  Librans see Saturn in their Sun sign as a personal challenge to maintain a thrifty lifestyle.

Our Scorpio friends can expect their new year to start with opportunities to earn some extra cash from their various projects. Events send them to new projects/jobs that require quick thinking and disciplined management of their time and labor.

Both Sun signs realize it is time to work hard to preserve useful material possessions and to dispose of those that have lost their value. Now is the time to find investments with a reliable yield and take the time to study them.

This Month For Libra
Venus the ruler of your Sun sign is retrograde. This means “no shopping”. Stash your Cash and do things that are basically free. Study the Internet with the goal of finding ways it will benefit your year ahead. Saturn transiting your Sun sign for the next 2 years means your middle name is “work”. Make sure your investments pay a reliable dividend. Set your goals and enjoy each accomplishment.

This Month For Scorpio
It is time for you to take charge. You are the boss. The month ahead will give you the energy to get things done for yourself and others. Now is a good time to remember your managerial skills and use them in your work place. Follow your investments daily but avoid day trading. Your piggy bank is hungry, feed it.

The New Moon in Libra

Read this New Moon report in it's entirety at www.astrologicalinvesting.com/html/newsletter.html
New Moon forecasts show the general trends and financial outlook for the month; here is what Kaye Shinker has to say for the month ahead:

The New Moon in Libra, October 7, 2010 at 2:44 pm EDT Washington, D.C.

The Libra New Moon appears in the 9th House (refer to chart)

This is a Super New Moon putting a great deal of pressure on those sectors of the markets that provide education, publish books, and provide long distance transportation for the travel industry.

Saturn appears in the 8th House
Discussions proliferate on insurance and taxes. There are plenty of proposals of ways to improve insurance and maintain reasonable premiums. Taxes are the main topic of conversation with a plethora of suggestions as to ways to make them lower.

Mercury appears in the 8th House
Government will join the discussions of ways to return the excessive cash on the balance sheets of USA based corporations. The death tax may be settled and discussions will continue on other taxes. Voters are listening to eighth house issues death, taxes, accounting, and insurance. All others are not important. This position of Mercury indicates a change in political leadership in the legislature. Electors will favor the non incumbent.

Venus appears in the 10th House
The chart of the Equinox continues here putting an emphasis on the feminine leaders in corporate USA. Female leaders will find the environment very favorable for increasing the profitability of their organizations.

Mars appears in the 10th House
Mars here indicates increased covert military activity. Male corporate leaders will be aggressive as they promote their industry. Mars is at home in Scorpio, therefore we will tend to chose investments that are aggressive and likely to earn a nice return.

Pluto appears in the 12th House
Scandals and crimes will bring down the leaders of prominent institutions as well as businesses. Police and other investigators will gain recognition for arresting criminals both white and blue color. Whistle blowers will explain the corruption they see to concerned citizens as well as reporters. Corruption in charities, hospitals and prisons will be exposed.

Neptune appears in the 1st House
The public is confused by a lot of the rhetoric. They feel like everyone in charge of government and industry has lied to them. They will vote with the ballot and the pocket book. They are unhappy and ready turn everything upside down.

Jupiter appears in the 2nd House
It has the power to increase the value of stock, bonds and commodities. Folks are earning extra cash in interesting places. The job market will improve as employers are finding they need to fill more orders than they anticipated.

Uranus appears in the 2nd House
Strange happenings are in the market place. Investors and traders will sense that there is a something dishonest happening but they are not able to identify exactly what it is. Entrepreneurs are finding very unique ways to capitalize on the internet by adding subscription services. Web site owners are impressed and sign on to the new ideas.

Financial Astrology for Your Zodiac Sign For the Lunar Month Beginning September 8, 2010 - Your Astrological Horoscope and Financial Outlook by Kaye Shinker
The New Moon is in Virgo. The Sun will enter the sign of Libra 14 days later on September 22nd at 11:09 pm EDT.
Happy Solar Return to everyone born under the sign of Libra, and Virgos still celebrating!

This Month For Libra
People actually tell you that you are a nice person, and they aren’t even fishing to borrow money. You are entirely focused on earning money and you do not care whether you earn it using your muscles or your brain. Your main goal is to stay busy and earn cash.

If you are a Libra Sun, born September 22 through October 7, you need to keep working hard and continue saving your money. You can help yourself by working on contract instead of by the hour. Saturn in your sign makes it easy for you to stay organized.

NOTE!  Mercury went Retrograde August 20 and will go Direct September 12. Mercury's retrograde period often brings a certain level of confusion, unexpected events, frustrations, delays and blockages in communications, transportation, and trade. If your birthday is August 20 through September 12, you will have Mercury Rx in your Solar Return - which means that you will be spending this birthday year doing everything twice! (Note: Marley, a Gemni, has had Mercury Rx in her Solar Return many times and found it to be a year of much contemplation, and looking back. Her key to dealing with those years of Mercury Rx was to be focused and be able to roll with the punches!)

If you are a late Virgo Sun, (born September 8 through September 21) Happy Solar Return! You will be very busy taking care of yourself for a change. Time to look after yourself and dress for success!

On the web site you will find the article, Venus- Money in Your Chart. Be sure to read it for directions on How to Construct an Astrological Treasure Chest.

Neptune/USA Moon and the Saturn Return

Neptune conjunct USA Moon

The USA is in major "going no where funk". Since August 18 when transiting Neptune made a conjunction to the natal Moon, the American public has been inundated with news concerning dishonest folks in their town, state and nation. Reporters can't keep up with the revelations at the local or national level. Most folks like a good scandal once in a while but there are so many they don't know which one to follow. Example: Massive quantities of salmonella tainted eggs and the producers failure to guard the health of their chickens.

The astrology of the situation is Neptune was conjunct the USA Moon March 14, 2010, then August 18 and January 15 will see the final conjunction of Neptune to the Moon. USA citizens have four more months of being deceived and discovering the deception. Like the eggs and the oil spill the problem is that everyone is involved in one way or another in the challenges brought by the deceptions. Will it be over in 2011? No. Lawsuits will proliferate. Folks don't take kindly to being hoodwinked.

Saturn Return

Worse the whole country is feeling the pressure of a Saturn square the Sun and then the Saturn return. They can feel the promise of a lot of very hard work on the horizon. Just as it marks a turning point in the life of an individual, it does the same for countries. Previous Saturn returns have seen the entire economy adapting to a new industry. In 1922 it was the automobile, in 1952 it was TV, in 1981 it was the personal computer and 2010 the smart phone. We are looking at a plethora of candidates changing the way we do business. Historically each of these inventions moved quickly into everyday life and changed the whole process of doing business. Just by using your cell phone, how many gallons of gas or hours waiting have you saved in the past month?

Addition Effects of Saturn in Libra at 14 °
Simultaneously Saturn is conjunct the Uranus in the Nasdaq's chart (Textbook for Financial Astrology Book 2) insisting the institution of new rules concerning the listing of stocks as well as delisting. These changes will affect the value of the QQQQ's pushing prices higher.
Stocks and people born in 1971- 1976 will find the changes in rules or just the changes in customer's attitude will require a total make over and a clean up.
Markets around the world are waiting for OPEC to make up its mind about the price of oil. OPEC has Venus a 14 degrees of Libra. Therefore Saturn will restrict the price because members need to compete for sales with Russia.

Prediction is Fun
The Textbooks are filled with charts. Take a pencil to the charts and mark the planets in early Libra. The Saturn transit is going to make life difficult for these companies and commodities.
Examples: Disney, Cypress, Corn, Copper and T-Bonds. Write your guess as to price motion on the page and date it. You can even share your opinion on comments or the bulletin board.

Prediction Hints
When Saturn makes a conjunction to any planet it enforces the rules concerning that planet. We will consider the business meaning of the planet.
Saturn to Sun forces a business to take a good hard look at their product and ethics
Saturn to Moon forces a business to pay attention to the attitude of their customers
Saturn to Mercury forces rebuilding of communications network
Saturn to Venus forces acknowledgement of how the company collects its income
Saturn to Mars insists the company review their labor force
Saturn to Jupiter forces the CEO and upper management to do the job correctly
Saturn to Saturn forces the CFO to explain to everyone what is needed to make a profit.
Saturn to Uranus means change everything IT and be sure to patent research
Saturn to Neptune means advertising and marketing is not working
Saturn to Pluto means divest the business of everything superfluous.

Saturn returns to Libra July 21, 2010

Hey Libra! Ready or Not Here Comes Saturn

July 21, 2010 Saturn returns to Libra. The challenges are changing and changing dramatically. We had a five month preview Oct. 30, 2009 - April 7, 2010. During that period of time the tech world introduced a number of new inventions and brought down the prices of some of our favorite techy toys. Thousands of other inventions stood in line at the patent office awaiting approval. I understand that it is a very long line.

The challenge of Saturn in Libra is to level the playing field. He starts will bulldozers, then hitches the land plane to tractors, and finally the power rake followed by seeds for new grass. It is quite an operation. Saturn believes if you make rules and laws the playing field will be level because everyone will follow the rules.

The things ruled by Libra are listed in the Textbook for Financial Astrology. For example: Public relations mutual funds, mergers, partnerships. Saturn here will spot light each one demanding new rules and laws. The new media is forcing change in Public Relations. Financial Reform is forcing changes on brokerage houses that sell mutual funds. Huge cash reserves in tech companies is changing the conditions of mergers and acquisitions. Folks expect to be treated with fairness and therefore partnerships are changing.

Think about how you feel about employment, sanitation, health care, or even the library. Saturn just changed all the rules concerning the areas of the economy ruled by Virgo. It will take a while for Virgo to adjust to the new rules but it will happen during Jupiter's transit of Pisces September 9 through January 22, 2011.

The excitement takes place during the next three weeks. Saturn opposes Uranus on July 26, 2010. So far this opposition has been the prognosticator of disaster. (latest is oil spill) But this time both planets are in Cardinal signs. Cardinal means fast, furious, enterprising, crisis that inspires new ideas, impatient to act. Saturn will slow the thinking of Libra's natural reaction to care what others think and therefore create new ideas. Uranus will impatiently demand enterprise. What sector of the economy will feel this energy? Every sector but particularly emergency services.

On August 16 a bit of sanity could return. Just don't count on Jupiter opposed Saturn to solve the crisis by throwing Money at the problem because the the opposition is again in cardinal signs at 2 Aries/Libra. The only solution is creative enterprising energy. My astrological guess is the problem has to do with power generation.

Saturn's ingress into Libra is the culmination of each generation's information Renaissance. Saturn's ingress into Libra allows new inventions and great ideas to move into the public domain. And simultaneously all sorts of new IPO's, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, legal issues and a huge problem with the currency. See the full article Saturn's Libra Ingress.

Saturn's Infrared Ring

How many degrees of space is covered by the ring?

Oct 8,2009 Saturn and Mercury are conjunct in Virgo. Therefore NASA released new information explaining that the ringed planet has more rings than we see in a telescope.  Science is confirming what we already know from experience.  When Saturn is ten degrees from a conjunction or an opposition from one of your natal planets the effect is felt and it doesn't go away until Saturn is 10 degrees away.

The ring discovered by NASA's Infrared camera might be the best explanation for the experience of Astrologers for the past 5,000 years.  Saturn can make life very challenging especially when transiting Saturn is approaching a conjunction or opposition to one of your natal planets.

Point of View in a Personal Horoscope
Saturn rules bones and by extension teeth.  Think about how long it takes for a cavity to form and then demand to be filled by the dentist.  Transiting Saturn moves to within ten degrees of your natal either Sun or Saturn and you forget your toothbrush on a camping trip. Several months later you visit the dentist and sure enough one of the Somemores attacked your front tooth.  Now Saturn is opposed to your natal Sun. Result? One hour with the dentist and $200 deducted from your checking account.

Financial Astrology's Point of View
Alcoa's incorporation is September 18, 1888.  Their Sun is 26 degrees Virgo and Saturn is transiting over their Sun. The past six quarters have been in the red. This quarter they finally made a profit, but their debt is huge because of previous losses. It will take a number of profitable quarters to reduce their debt. Fortunately throughout 2010 Saturn will transit back and forth over their Sun forcing the company to keep their internal fiscal discipline.

Saturn in Libra
Halloween Eve and Saturn moves into Libra check my article to find out the sectors of the economy where he will start making trouble. My guess is that the number of degrees in space covered by the ring is at least 4, but maybe 6 and unlike other planets Saturn causes trouble on both ides of its transit. Guess that will be a lesson in my next Textbook.
