Can Planets Influence human Life?

(Excerpt edited from an article written by Kaye Shinker for Astrological Investing in reply to one of her students in 2009.)

OK  There is a long answer but here's a short list:
Mercury Retrograde 
Mercury's apparent forward, stationary, and backward movement as seen from our planet is always the astrologers best example of how muddled brains all over the world can get.  The best current example is the TARP program passed by the Congress and signed into law all during a Mercury retrograde. I discuss this phenomena in my Textbooks for Financial Astrology Book 1 Lesson 2.
Your average student astrologer will probably have a long list of Mercury retrograde events. Most are pretty funny.

Happy Solar Return and Natal Planetary Conjunctions
On the day you were born a pattern was set. Every year the Sun comes to the exact same position as it was on the day you were born - the transiting Sun is conjunct Natal Sun. So much energy focused on that particular day of the year can make you happy or depressed. So we manage and celebrate the day it by giving you ice cream and cake and sometimes we invite your friends over to sing songs - but if you are really lucky an astrologer will read your solar return chart. A Solar Return is a chart drawn up at the exact time the Sun returns to the exact same degree is was on the day you were born.  An astrologer using this chart can assess and predict the themes that will arise for you during your next “solar year”—the 12 months that happen from one birthday to the next.

You probably get used to the energy and moods of  the Moon since it returns to its natal position 13 times per year, however, Mercury returning to its natal position can often produce a really great idea, Venus can bring a note from an old friend and Mars can make you super energetic when they return to the position it occupied in your natal chart.

Jupiter returns to its natal position about every 12 years. Watch carefully for this event -  usually something really nice happens around that date! Jupiter's energy bring expansion, opportunity, luck and in general good vibrations.  You need to watch for the sextiles, squares, trines and oppositions of Jupiter and Venus to planets in your horoscope chart as well so you can anticipate that they will bring
 some special gift your way.

About every seven years Saturn really whacks you and pushes the book of life right in your face and says study up. Saturn is the planet brings astrologers clients. No one can explain your lessons or understand your Saturn transit better than an astrologer.

Saturn can be just down right mean. He can take away your love, your money and your health and throw it in the trash. He refuses to return it until you learn your lesson.  Saturn wants you to learn your lessons and learn them so well you won't forget. Right now Saturn is opposed my Sun and I am learning to live by my wits and write lengthy prose to a young astrologer named Leah, my student who asked me "Do planets influence our daily life?".  Hell ya! Saturn forces you to get up and get your act together.

The other planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto tremendously affect you and your peers about the same way. You should all get together, call it a study group;  you WILL learn your lessons whether you want to or not!

Eclipses
Then there are eclipses. They interrupt or rip the electrical field that protects the earth's atmosphere. In 2005 there was an eclipse visible over New Orleans.  In August everyone there learned a lesson as did the folks who were devastated by Rita.  If an eclipse aspects your natal planets the sensitive areas of your life that will be triggered.  Beginnings and endings occur and often we’ll begin a new stage in our life.

Financial Astrology makes the Game FUN

Financial astrology gives you the confidence to get into the game and it even adds to the fun of watching and investing in the markets.

Consider August when Mercury was retrograde and everyone was positive the markets would tank. However you read the Leo New Moon report at Astrologicalinvesting.com. You knew this was a temporary phenomena. August had a very normal Mercury rx. About seven days into the 21 day cycle the markets hit a low, creeped along the low for a few days and then when Mercury went direct they returned to almost the same index number.

In the Leo New Moon news letter at Astrological Investing we explained the astrological phenomena and suggested that traders take a vacation.

Calendar Game

You will notice that each month we publish a calendar on the blog. Each day lists the time when the Moon makes an exact aspect to any planet as well as the times when planets make exact aspects to each other. Our students print the calendar then mark each day as to whether they think the markets will be up or down. They use the knowledge they gain from the Textbook for Financial Astrology as well as the rules they acquire from the Idiot and the Moon. After a few months of practice and a bit of back testing they might miss a day or two, but usually they catch even the interday changes in direction of the indexes.

Portfolio Game

Another game where students enjoy testing their knowledge is the portfolio game. Each of the e trading sites offers a practice portfolio where you can design a pretend portfolio and then try all of their bells and whistles. Our students learn how to chose stocks that are at a low and have a good chance of increasing in value. They learn to predict when to buy then when to sell the stock for a profit with the calendar as an additional tool to determine the mood of the markets.

Back testing Cycles

Every Financial Astrologer will explain how they back tested astrological patterns and arrived at their prediction for a particular aspect that will appear in the near future. This method works. It is also fun. However, before you put down real money you need to learn how to read the calendar and understand how each planet effects the progress of the markets.

Starting with the Textbooks for Financial Astrology, and the taking a class or two it takes only a few months to learn the basics and then it is a matter of practice, practice, practice. Lesson 1 starts with the basic astrological concept of Void of Course Moon and Mercury Retrograde. Both are trader's red flags.

Money and Practical Astrology

New Moon in Taurus means Frugal.
It is a perfect time to open a savings account where you want the money to stay put and not sneak away on trivial "I wants" In fact my Moon in Taurus savings account just gave my car a tow truck ride. Insurance covered the ride but I had to pay cash to the driver and wait for the insurance check.

Savings accounts are also handy for depositing refund checks, birthday checks and even rolls of nickels and pennies. Lovable savings accounts collect a few dollars here and a few dollars there and pretty soon you are talking about an online trading account. "FUN"

The sign of the Sun and/or Moon will help you decide when to purchase big ticket items. A new computer would prefer a Moon in Aquarius, a new refrigerator would prefer a Moon in Cancer, and a new car would enjoy a Moon in Gemini. Problem is that we usually do not purchase big ticket items until the old one breaks beyond repair. However, if you can wait a day or a week give it a try.

Speaking of repairs, Mercury rx is the best time to "fix it". When you take the old clunker to the shop, bring a book, your homework and your knitting. Mercury rx "fix it" usually require double the amount of time to accomplish the work. Also be sure you have a written estimate before they start the job.

There are events where you can control the start up date.
If you are starting a new business, you may wish to have the Sun sign for the business in the sign most favorable for the product or service the business offers. If you are selling your house, you might chose an excellent time to list the property. If you are planning to make a long term investment, it is really a good idea to find a good day to sign the papers. If you are plan to start a club or begin a charity project then it is really a good idea to chose an auspicious day and time.

My Textbook for Financial Astrology Book 1 will give you a good start at finding the perfect date. After you read the book you could look up some businesses you knew and loved. Did they have a Jupiter rx and therefore a lazy salesman? Did their Neptune square Mercury and the employees robbed them blind? Did you purchase that "lemon" under a Mercury rx or did the Moon VOC catch the business and one month later you hung up the "going out of business sign".

November 7 Neptune Direct

Throughout the Textbooks for Financial Astrology I discuss the deceptions of Neptune identifiying its aspects to various planets as a Red Flag. These deception are usually very costly and cruel. The Sibley chart for the USA has the Moon at 27 degrees Aquarius and during the past few months Neptune retrograde has passed over this critical point. Neptune is now stationed at 26 degrees Aquarius and during the next two months Neptune will turn direct and pass over this point in the USA national horoscope for the final pass.

As Neptune turns direct it will reveal one deception after another.

Swindles will be revealed. Thieves will be arrested. Liars will be caught. One economic bubble after another will burst. And you thought the bail outs were enough economic chicanery for one decade. Neptune direct will allow its creative side to find excellent answers and hopefully allow the problems of deception on the American public to be solved.

2009-2011 The Bubble Bursts and bursts and b u r s t s
Two Big Banks J.P. Morgan Chase and Bank of America are part of the Dow and their charts are in The Textbook for Financial Astrology . Big Bad Banks and some smaller ones have deceived their customers and their investors. Not good for a business dependent on the concept of 'trust' The public has been hoodwinked by the banks and mortgage companies at every level. It is an impossible mess. The contract laws meant to protect the investor on both sides of the equation have been flagrantly violated.

Neptune's final pass November 2010-April 2011 means that the public will finally know what is happening and how various banks intend to fix their problems. The deceptions have been cruel to yield hungry investors looking at mortgage backed securities as a safe investment and average folks who wished to secure their retirement with home ownership. The USA Cancer Sun explains why these citizens cherish their home. This pass by Neptune over the moon has stirred the emotions of the populace.

A quick look back in history tells us that Neptune was discovered by astronomers in 1846 at 26 degrees of Aquarius, the position it now occupies. The previous pass of Neptune over the USA Moon stirred the emotions of the public in various forms of land grabs. In the USA Gold was discovered in California, railroads were starting to crisscross the country and the Mexican-American War was being fought.

Uranus and Jupiter in Aries
Maybe their transit of Aries will help the bankers clean up the mess with some unusual pioneering ideas. They are ready to spend a few months together in Aries. However, experience tells us that when they are together in this sign, ' A Bubble Bursts'. Problem is there are a lot of candidates for bubbles. There are 25 Dow stocks with planets in early degrees of cardinal signs. Currently the bond market has expressed an interesting in bursting its bubble. Next in line is the commercial real estate business, and right behind is currency, and agriculture. Almost anything could happen. Fasten your seat belts.

A Long Void of Course Moon Aug 12, 2010

The hardest thing I teach VOC Moon's exception to the rule. Parallel and contra-parallel. Today is an example of the exception.

If you look at today's calendar page you will notice that the moon is void of course all day or all night depending on you time zone. I generally recommend in the Textbook for Financial Astrology Book 1 that you do things you do not want to remember that you did. Example cleaning house,car,garage,desk. However there is an exception to this rule and that is a void of course moon that includes parallels and contraparallels. Today is one of those days and I'm hoping this chart makes it through the e mail and you can see the declination column on the lower left hand side of the page.

Notice Venus is 2S54 and Mars is 2 S 59 meaning they are parallel. Jupiter is 00 S 16 and Uranus is 00 S 42 also parallel.

In your day to day life you find lovely or delicious things to purchase and interesting maybe valuable investments or an interesting new friend. You say OH maybe I should ignore these since the Moon is VOC, but then temptation snarls you and you buy it anyway. Then you actually use it.

OPPS Kaye was wrong about the VOC Moon being a good day to just do mundane routine chores, after all on Aug 12 I had this amazing good luck. If you can try this exception to the VOC rule. Buy something interesting and keep the receipt or just add an interesting customer to your client list or sign up to do something fun. Don't bet the farm on the 7th horse in the 7th race OK?

With the planets bunching up in the lower degrees of the zodiac, it is a good idea to watch for days with VOC Moon during business hours. Who knows we might all have clean desks, spotless homes for a short time until time until Uranus and Jupiter return to Pisces.

Silver as a Commodity

The Moon Rules Silver

The light of the silvery Moon is always changing and therefore the price of silver is constantly changing. It is a moody metal, unpredictable and its valuations are capricious. However if you follow the price of silver over the past 70+ years you will note that it trends higher until the Sun is in Cancer and trends lower until the Sun is in Virgo. Eclipses of the Sun or Moon do not have a dramatic effect on the price of silver. If silver has a big price swing you must check transiting Pluto because someone is trying to manipulate the market.

I thought I would give you all a short lesson in how an astrologer looks at a chart for a commodity. First you check for the question is it a seasonal commodity. Price history is very important, but the web sites use the business calendar. You have to adjust your eyes and make use of the Astrological calendar. The Sun changes its astrological sign about 10 days before the end of each month. Therefore you look at the price about a week before the calendar month ends.

The Sun will move into Cancer on June 20th, the Summer Solstice. Therefore we might expect that the trend for Silver will be down during the next few months. OK then how about Pluto? Pluto September 2010 station at 2 degrees Capricorn is trine the Mars/Neptune in Virgo. It seems unlikely the price will be manipulated.

Transiting Mars is past the Virgo planets so the little boost of energy he gave to price is over. The chart seems to say Silver is a possible choice for investments, but suggest you save your cash for a month or two until it finds its lowest price. Of course if you have an investment in Silver you might take some profits and then add to your holdings later.

The chart above is useful as an early warning to predict the rise and fall of the price for silver. Transiting Saturn will trine its Venus. It looks like a good play long, but silver is capricious and stops are essential. Note these aspects have been in play since 2008.

I tested this chart for silver with past highs and lows. The best story happened in 1980. I chose the event when the Hunt Brothers attempted to corner the silver market. March 1980 silver sold for almost $50 per troy ounce. However March 24, 1980 there was a rules change concerning margin requirements for commodities traders. The chart for Silver indicates the rules change with Pluto squared by transiting Pluto. The Hunt brothers had cornered one third of the silver market, but the change in margin rules would bankrupt them. It's a good story.

In financial astrology it is a good idea not to mess with Pluto. Transiting Pluto loves to destroy wealth and will chose a conjunction, square, or an opposition to accomplish the task. Summer 2010 Pluto and Saturn are square. A square to Saturn and Pluto is always looking for targets, but it appears it might forget silver. Pluto seems to be out of the picture in the chart for silver.

Silver and Platinum are usually found in the same place as Gold. Miners prefer the profit margin in gold and hedge their expenses with silver as it is in greater supply. The electronics industry fills most of the demand and usually the gold miners can keep them well supplied.

Why I'm wrote this blog

During the past week every single E newsletter is recommending Silver and Gold. Probably every cab driver in New York is recommending both. So many suggestions would tell me its time to sell and buy vacant land, and dividend paying stocks, or better yet investing in yourself. It is always a good idea to have about 10% of your portfolio in commodities. Silver is a useful metal and worthy of inclusion. If you are patient you could find a bargain in Silver.

There are a lot of phony numbers out there.

The New Moon appears in the eighth house -November 16th (Non USA members please set the New Moon chart for the capital of your country and note the house position of the New Moon - Textbook 4, page 30 will help you interpret the new moon for your own country)

The New Moon in the eighth means that the concentration of the public is on insurance and taxes. It is the reaction of government to add more taxes when they have a shortfall in their collections. The public sees the problem as if you don't have a job, you cannot earn any money to pay the taxes. This quiet boycott is cutting into the projected collection of tax revenues. The same is true with insurance. There is also a problem of leadership passing away. No one is available to explain how to get things done efficiently or to encourage managers to help the employees do their work.

Mercury in the eighth house
Folks are concerned with the laws that require unexpected taxes when dealing with gifts and inheritance. The world wide web is helpful but others will require detailed advise to solve the problems. Doctors, lawyers and accountants will find that their services are in demand.

Venus in the eighth house
Venus is very intense in Scorpio and insists that you consider thrifty purchases with your earned income. Problem is that a great deal of energy is required to earn the income needed to pay for purchases, and thrifty takes time and thought. Folks are silently rebelling against certain taxes by boycotting items that require excess taxes. Fewer sin taxes are collected when fewer items are sold.

Pluto in the tenth house
Executives and government leaders are in the midst of some awkward situations concerning the management of their assigned projects. Pluto is square Saturn, therefore suggesting that leaders are stuck on the issue of finding experts for advise. Professional advisers are busy helping their friends and neighbors and explain that they are not available to help corporate or government leadership. The public's perception of their work is that they have no concept of a budget. Leaders are striving for absolute power and finding folks not very cooperative.

Jupiter in the twelfth house
Jupiter is in the final degrees of Aquarius and in the twelfth house. Scandals concerning fraud, embezzlement and secret detention prisons will scandalize various governments and institutions. Officials will be exposed for their heavy expenses and ludicrous book keeping. The internet will help bring the performance of these officials to the attention of the public.

Neptune in the twelfth house
Fraud is in abundant supply. Information concerning the mismanagement of the receipts of supposedly respected charitable institutions overwhelms the public. Scandals concerning the administration of services meant to help the poor, handicapped and minorities proliferate. Donations to these charities diminish quickly.

Uranus in the tenth
Innovation is a key word with Uranus, and management will have the opportunity to reform their actions. People are extremely dissatisfied with the performance of their leaders, but are willing to listen to announcements and disclosures that promise improvements. Governments seek to console the populace by adding more controls that promise to reform the administration of public institutions.

The best example of the changes brought by Uranus in Pisces is the creation of a whole new business model for the sale and distribution of music. This holiday season will spell the end of music sales through traditional venues. Creative folks at every level have seen massive changes concerning the sale of their products. Content providers, whether writing fact or fiction, must adapt to the same drastic changes that are very obvious in the field of music.

Expect that Uranus will do the same to manufacturing next year when he starts his transit through Aries starting in June, 2010.

Mars in the fifth house
Mars in Leo will create some wonderful new games and toys. Mars here puts a great deal of stress on entertainment venues. Audiences are very tense and not easily pleased by the actors, musicians and sports teams they paid to amuse them.

Saturn in the seventh
There are opportunities here to solve some international problems using diplomacy and talking one on one. The conflict is between the need for fair treatment and the desire for power. Folks are dissatisfied with current conditions and look to their leaders for answers to their difficulties. Few leaders are available to help.

Sun in Taurus - Holy Cow!

April 19th is Orthodox Easter. Throughout the Orthodox Christian world Easter tables will offer various delectable dishes, inspired by certain traditional Orthodox recipes. Easter lamb is, of course the quintessential dish. However, while they celebrate Easter and feast on lamb, this day marks the arrival of a Bull....the Sun's entrance into the sign of Taurus the Bull at 6:44:24 pm.

For a chart set in New York at 6:24:24 pm, Libra is rising and the Sun in Taurus is in the 7th house. Venus, ruler of Taurus and Libra is in Pisces, exalted, and she rules the chart! What a glorious day to celebrate Orthodox Easter.

We wish all who celebrate a Joyful and Happy Easter.

Patient, and practical Taurus, the Bull has immeasurable energy but is slow to act and capable of waiting a long time for plans to mature. Never try to push a Bull around! He can be obstinate, some may say stubborn (!) and terribly enraged when pushed, although he is an amenable creature when appealed to in the right way.

Those of us who are born under the sign of Taurus, or live with someone born between April 20 to May 21 (dates depend on the year and adjust for the calendar correction for Leap Year) understand how necessary it is to appeal to Taurus the "right" way!

The symbol for Taurus is a full Moon (a circle) which on top is placed a crescent Moon (for the horns). The Moon is exalted in Taurus because the bull symbolizes fertility, as well as stability which is extremely important for the Moon.

The New Moon in Taurus is Friday, April 24 at 2:46. Astrological Investing will post Kaye Shinker's New Moon Predictions on that day as well as Fiscal Cents, a monthly sun sign forecast that gives predictions for the month beginning on each new moon. April Fool! Venus Rx T-Square Pluto, Moon

Sorry... It's not so funny for you who may have a natal planet or point at 3 or 4 Cardinal in your natal chart!

The Moon changes signs today as she ingresses into the cardinal zodiac sign of Cancer. At 6:06 pm EDT today the Moon will exactly oppose Pluto in Capricorn and together they will form a T- square to Venus retrograde at 4 Aries.

Venus rules the value of stocks, and the market is surely in for a bumpy ride.

The day begins with Moon square Uranus at 1:48 am, then a trine to Neptune at 5:03 am before she goes Void of Course during the NYSE trading hours. The first aspect she makes after her entrance into Cancer is the opposition to Pluto, then an exact square to Venus at 7:28 pm EDT.

Unpredictable market fluctuations occur during Void of Course Moons, and it is never a good day when Luna makes such harsh aspects. I imagine overnight trading will react from the T-square as well. And since we are half-way through the Venus Rx period, it is expected that the market will continue this pull-back that began last Friday.

About the photo -
I was always sure that the photographer who shot this photo had something completely different in mind, but back in the early 80's when I saw the poster hanging on display, all I could see when I looked at it was Pluto exposing himself to Venus! I cracked up laughing at the irony, and felt compelled to purchase a copy for myself.

It wasn't until recently that I discovered the real story behind the photo... and a regular Venus Retrograde experience to discover the history of a piece of "art" that one has owned for a while!

It is an actual photo of a popular political figure from Portland, Oregon. Bud Clark, who served as Mayor of Portland from 1985 to 1992, and was known for his eccentric behavior. Expose Yourself to Art was taken and widely distributed before he ran for Mayor; however the poster did nothing to deter his winning the election. He astonished the incumbent, Frank Ivancie, who had not taken Mr. Clark seriously as an opponent. Ivancie mocked Clark saying (his) "only claim to fame is exposing himself to a downtown statue."

According to the photographer, Michael Ryerson, who took the photo, "Bud was very active on the Venereal Disease Action Council, and he wanted to make a poster drawing attention to their cause. The Council had produced a T-shirt to promote awareness in the high schools, which at the time had an alarmingly high level of this problem. It was titled "Zap the Clap," which was on the T-shirt he was wearing (under the overcoat.)"

Although the poster now hangs on an attic room wall, it once hung in my bedroom. I can't remember if Venus was Retrograde back when I decided it needed a spot on my bedroom wall, but it must have been. The rule we astrologers give to our clients who are interested in decorating their homes is to never buy anything during Venus Rx, because you have a good chance of buying something that lacks good taste.

Still...I think it's funny.
